Job overview
The successful applicant will join a busy Plastic Surgery department in Salisbury Foundation Trust and will also be involved in the Plastic Surgery input at the Major Trauma Centre at University Hospital Southampton.
Candidates are expected to have good general Plastic Surgical experience, the ability to perform Microsurgical Breast Reconstructive work and have evidence to show their ability to perform DIEP flaps.
Candidates are expected to have significant experience in Plastic Surgery Trauma and a specific interest in working in a Major Trauma Centre. Evidence of microsurgical trauma limb reconstruction is expected.
Main duties of the job
Working collaboratively with the other consultants and wider multi-disciplinary team within Plastic Surgery, the post-holder will;
- Support the further development and improvement of the Trauma and breast reconstruction services within the Trust, to improve the timely management of patients and increase the resilience of the service.
- Supporting the management of general plastic surgery patients within the department.
- Communicate effectively with bookings team to ensure optimal utilisation of theatre lists.
- Be engaged with the Cinapsis system for responding to advice and guidance requests.
- Engage in the department clinical governance activity and Morbidity & Mortality review meetings.
- Provide clinical support and leadership for junior doctors, nursing and other staff involved in the management of patients admitted to the department, as well as those attending the out-patient department.
- Provide teaching and training to junior doctors, medical students, nurses and paramedical staff within the team.
- Participate in the consultant on-call rota, taking responsibility for all patients admitted under their care and ensuring timely senior assessment and decision making to facilitate appropriate investigation, prompt management and early discharge.
- Work collaboratively with the breast reconstruction nurses and to continue development of enhanced recovery program.

Essential criteria
- Possession, or within 6 months of possession, of a CCT in Plastic Surgery leading to entry onto GMC Specialist Register.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of wide experience and a high level of competence in breast reconstruction surgery including micro-surgical techniques.
- Experience in General Plastic Surgery Trauma.
- Experience in microsurgical trauma limb reconstruction.
- Experience in managing risk and knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems, demonstrating clear, logical thinking and analytical approach.
- Knowledge and application of up-to-date evidence-based practice.
Management Experience

- Ability to perform effectively as a member of a team, including a multidisciplinary team and to motivate and develop staff.
- Willing to forge clinical, research and academic links with other organisations.
