The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a Performance and Operations Manager overseeing General Medicine and DOPs (Care of Elderly)

The successful candidate with work in collaboration with Clinical Leads, Senior Nurses, Midwifes and operational managers to support with operational functions.

Main duties of the job

In collaboration with the Clinical Leads, Senior Nurses, Senior Midwives and AGM, the post holder is responsible for all operational functions within the department, supporting the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective provision of services to patients. 

The post holder is responsible for resourcing the department with the required capacity to meet all service 
demands.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To manage the effectiveness and efficiency of the designated specialties within the Division, ensuring the 
relevant standards are achieved.

2. To monitor the operational performance of the department, escalating issues where appropriate. This 
may involve the analysis and interpretation of complex facts or situations and may involve the comparison 
of a range of options.

3. In collaboration with the Assistant General Manager, ensure all performance indicators and national 
standards are achieved (e.g. RTT, DM01, Cancer Wait times and Time in ED) to deliver a high quality, 
effective service, where patient experience and patient safety is central. 

4. Compile reports and statistical information in line with the Trust’s reporting framework.

5. Provide detailed feedback of performance from a variety of information systems at Trust wide and monthly 
performance meetings.

6. To support with data entry and lead data validation.

7. To lead data quality assurance and manage appropriate databases.

8. To support the demand and capacity modelling process, ensuring all capacity is published 6 weeks in 
advance. 

9. To liaise with outpatients to ensure full utilisation of clinics and managing capacity.

10. To support the investigation of and response to patient complaints, which may be of a sensitive and 
complex nature.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • Evidence of management development
  • Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Formal project management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Track record of participating and achieving significant changes.
  • Operational problem solving.
  • Contribution towards service development.
  • Knowledge of national key performance indicators.
  • Experience of demand and capacity planning.
  • Experience of line managing staff
  • Experience of working within a busy clinical environment.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in Acute NHS Trust.

Skills

  • Good analytical reasoning (verbal and numerical) and sound financial management skills
  • Strong communication skills including negotiation and influencing skills
  • Able to manage to deadlines and within resources.
