Advanced Pharmacist (Medicines Effectiveness)

Band 8a

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a unique organisation, serving as the sole integrated provider in the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire system. Our scope extends beyond boundaries as we oversee adult community services in Swindon and provide acute care from the Great Western Hospital.

Our 5,500 staff have 1.2m patient contacts a year, with 13,000 operations carried out in our Theatres, around 4,000 babies born, and our emergency attendances are now well over 100,000 per year. Those numbers only tell part of our story about what an exciting time it is to join Great Western Hospitals.

We are cultivating a culture that fosters our ambitions, prioritising equality, diversion, inclusion, wellbeing, and leadership. We aim to create an environment where every member of our team can truly thrive.

The Trust is a Disability Confident Employer; all applicants who have a disability can opt to be considered under the guaranteed interview scheme, which means that, providing they meet the minimum essential criteria for the post, they will be offered an interview. We are also proudly accredited as a Veteran Aware organisation and have signed The Armed Forces Covenant.

If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close adverts prior to the published closing date. Therefore, we advise you to complete and submit your application as soon as possible.

We are delighted to share this amazing opportunity for an enthusiast pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Medicines Effectiveness (PME) team, on a 12-month, fixed term basis, to provide maternity leave cover for our 8a Advanced Pharmacist (Medicines Effectiveness).

The role involves working collaboratively with pharmacy, clinical, finance and commissioning colleagues across our Trust, our integrated care system and beyond, to ensure we introduce safe, clinically- effective and cost-efficient medicines to our  local formulary and our Trust, in line with national guidance, commissioning policies and contractual agreements.

The post holder will also lead our PME team in the absence of the Lead Pharmacist (Clinical Commissioning & Medicines Value), and will further advance their clinical skills with a regular commitment to our clinical pharmacy service, and opportunities for independent prescribing.

The successful candidate will join a team with a culture of improving together, inspiring up-and-coming team members, and embracing change, all with a clear line of sight to the safety, outcomes  and experiences of the patients in our care. We will, in turn, support you in developing your specialty, clinical and leadership skills, and in your career development.

Our Pharmacy team provides procurement, distribution, dispensary, ward-based clinical, cancer, aseptic and homecare services to Great Western Hospital and several local community health services.

We embrace new technologies. Our pharmacy robots are invaluable members of our team; electronic prescribing is well-established in almost all inpatient and outpatient settings at Great Western Hospital; we use CareFlow EPR electronic patient records system and NerveCentre for electronic pharmacy handover notes; and all pharmacists are issued with their own laptop to capitalise on this connectivity.

We proudly uphold the Trust's STAR Values:

Service - We will put our patients first.

Teamwork - We will work together.

Ambition - We will aspire to provide the best service.

Respect - We will act with integrity.

and would expect successful candidates to also uphold these values.

Swindon has very good transport links.
