This is an exciting and rare opportunity for a registered Nurse to undertake a 12 week training programme to develop skills as an Anaesthetic Practitioner - upon successful completion of the training programme (University provider to be confirmed), the candidate will be employed on a full time basis as a Theatre Practitioner as part of the Anaesthetic Team.
For candidates who do not complete the requirements of the course, they will be offered a role within our Scrub or Recovery team due to the specific training requirements of the Anaesthetic Practitioner.

The post holder will be an NMC registered nurse who will assess, plan, implement and evaluate high quality, safe and compassionate care for patients in the perioperative setting. This care will be facilitated utilising evidence based perioperative standards, trust policies as well as local and national guidelines (e.g. NICE).
The post holder will be expected to work with the perioperative multidisciplinary team (including Anaesthetists and Surgeons) to provide effective care within the Anaesthetics, Scrub and Post Anaesthetic care disciplines, in line with scope of practice and departmental need.
The post holder will support the Theatre Leadership Team to ensure standards of practice and care quality are upheld; this includes acting as a role model, supporting the learning of others and contributing to the development and implementation of improvement ideas.

- Assess, plan, and implement high quality, safe, compassionate and effective perioperative care for patients, in line with scope of practice.
- Ensure risk management / safety strategies, Trust policies and departmental procedures are adhered to in the delivery of patient care.
- Demonstrate a sound theoretical understanding and practical application of evidence-based, perioperative care standards in line with national recommendations and clinical guidance (e.g., NICE, AfPP).
- Ensure patient safety strategies (e.g., WHO surgical Safety / 5 steps to safer surgery) are implemented consistently and where appropriate, contribute to the development of new initiatives which support the improvement agenda

- Teaching / Assessing / Mentorship qualification
Experience

- Experience in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care, using an evidence-based approach
- Experience of understanding and implementing (adhering to) Trust policies, departmental procedures and local / national guidelines.
- Experience of working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of all service users
- Experience of undertaking / recording CPD activities commensurate to the role, including keeping relevant logs to support annual appraisal / validation of extended role competencies.

- Experience across a broad range of specialities in 1 or more perioperative discipline (Anaesthetics, Scrub and Post Anaesthetic Care)
- Evidence of supervising junior staff and leading clinical teams
- Evidence of supporting colleagues / mentoring learners / facilitating learning within the perioperative environment
- Evidence of post registration CPD and recent experience as a Surgical First Assistant / ability to demonstrate specialist knowledge / competence to undertake Surgical First Assistant role
Knowledge

- Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills, particularly where there are barriers to understanding.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant local and national guidance / standards.
- Ability to undertake role / problem solve using clinical expertise and experience, guided by appropriate trust policies / standard operating procedures / guidelines and best practice.
- Ability to escalate concerns when additional support / decision making required
- Basic IT skills – word, excel, power points, emails.
