The post holder will work for the Transport & Fleet Services department as a driver either on a collection / delivery of small stores/samples, a collection of Clinical Waste within the Wiltshire boundaries and neighboring counties / an Internal Patient Transport driver or a driver courier of miscellaneous goods or Linen.
As a Driver your duties will include, loading of goods prior to dispatch on timed routes: this will include Pharmacy controlled drugs, medical records, internal mail, medical equipment, Stores and clean or dirty linen.
A delivery and collection service of internal mail, documents, medical stores and any ad-hoc stores / equipment to locations on a pre-determined multiple start & finish timed route as detailed by the Transport Department, route start times vary from 0700 to 1100, with all shifts covering 7.5 hours.
Main duties of the job
As the post holder you will also be responsible for:
- A collection of pathological samples from surgeries and a delivery service to pathology laboratories. Collection of clinical waste from patient’s residential addresses as part of a specialist dedicated route.
- Ensure that strict time/route schedules are adhered to and reporting to the Transport Department in case of deviation and/or delays. Overtime will not be paid unless authorised in these cases.
- To ensure the correct disposal of clinical waste at recognised disposal sites adhering to Government and NHS waste streams regulations.
- Assist and undertake valets of the Trust’s pool vehicle fleet and other official vehicles, to ensure an acceptable standard of cleanliness, inside and out.
- Undertake daily safety checks on assigned vehicle, completing and signing of corresponding paperwork/digital reporting systems and report any concerns/failures to the Transport Department.

- General educational standard of numeracy and literacy
- Full Valid Clean Driving Licence
- Working knowledge of COSHH

- Previous experience as a driver/courier
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS, public sector or service industry working
