Job overview
The Post holder will:
Work independently and unsupervised as an expert Advanced Practitioner in performing diagnostic Upper Oesophageal-gastro-duodenoscopies (OGD), Colonoscopy and Flexible Sigmoidoscopy on sedated and non sedated patients, and where applicable manage own caseload of patients through new and follow-up nurse-led clinics for patients presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms, with support from Gastroenterology Consultants. Exercise and demonstrate advanced levels of clinical judgement, discretion and clinical decision making. Be responsible for diagnosing benign and malignant gastrointestinal conditions and discussing the findings of such examinations with the patients and for planning appropriate patient management
Be a highly experienced specialist advanced practitioner, with expert knowledge and skills in the field of Endoscopy Services, undertaking holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and will reflect the standards and targets laid down by the British Society of Gastroenterology, Joint Advisory Group and GRS.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply
Main duties of the job
A vacancy has arisen for a Clinical Endoscopist to work within BCUHB North Wales. If you are looking for a new challenge in a job that will stretch and develop your clinical nursing, extended skills management and communication skills, then consider joining our highly motivated and dynamic team.
Preferably, we are seeking an experienced, well qualified person to join our multidisciplinary team. Requirements are for a fully trained, independent and JAG accredited Clinical Endoscopist. With independent, competent practice in lower and upper GI procedures. We would require evidence of a JAG portfolio and certificate. With a Masters in the relevant field or committed to completing a Masters Degree in the next 3 years. Opportunities for personal and professional development exist within the organisation.
We are reintroducing our JAG national training centre on one of our sites, one of only two across Wales. We are committed to developing our staff through the appraisal system and aim to provide a personal educational plan for all staff. We are friendly and offer a supportive working environment. We have strong Consultant mentoring of the developing Clinical Endoscopist role.
You will need an enthusiastic attitude towards new ways of working and be committed to providing the highest standards of care. The post includes 7 day working as the department progresses and expands.
