Specialist Occupational Therapist

Job overview
This post is fixed term for 12 months to meet the needs of the service.
BCUHB East are looking to recruit a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to provide cover for team maternity leave. The post involves rotations across the acute medical and surgical wards in Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Community Resource Team in Wrexham and as part of the Falls and Frailty service with Welsh Ambulance NHS Trust.
This will be an opportunity to develop yourself within specialist areas such as Palliative Care, acute medicine, respiratory and surgery. You will also have the opportunity to gain skills and proficiency working within community settings with the CRT and WAST in response to urgent, crisis cases within the community.
To support the transformation of the acute Occupational Therapy Service, this role will focus on utilising their unique professional skills for maxim impact for those with significant impact to their functional ability. The individual will take responsibility for the provision and development of an effective and specialised occupational therapy service within their hospital admission or in the community. This will include initially pathways in Frailty Dementia/Delirium, Parkinson and Parkinsonism, and any other pathway as identified.
Main duties of the job
You will be a self-motivated practitioner, with an ability think on your feet, and will have developed effective problem solving and communication skills. You should be able to demonstrate strong clinical reasoning and rehabilitation skills and be able to implement strategies to minimise the impact of deconditioning. You will also require excellent communication, organisational and time management skills and be able to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service.
You will be supporting junior members of the team on a day to day basis through supervision, preceptorship and appraisals. There will also be an opportunity to contribute to wider service developments i.e. audits, meetings, recruitment etc.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
