Job overview

Band 7 1.0 WTE Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Prison Services, HMP Berwyn Wrexham

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Band 7 SLT to work up to full-time at the prison .

Main duties of the job

This role is for a suitably experienced SLT with relevant specialist skills to lead our service at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham, which was built in 2017, and is one of the largest men’s prisons in the UK. Since its opening, we have had permanent funding for SLT within the Therapies and Healthcare team based at the prison, and have an established SLT service ensuring communication and dysphagia support for the men and regular training and liaison for colleagues across the site. We now have a vacancy for a Band 7 SLT to continue to develop our SLT service, including developing a broader skill-mixed SLT team working within and beyond the prison with a focus on forensic SLT.  You would work with Speech and Language Therapy managers in reviewing and developing a skill-mixed forensic team for the future.

In this specialist post, we would ensure clinical supervision within the criminal justice SLT community across the UK as well as welcoming you into our friendly local adult clinical team of SLTs and TIs working across all settings, who come together regularly for support, learning and service development.
