Job overview

 An exciting opportunity has come up to join our acute stroke team working as a generic Physio and OT technical instructor. The post is 37.5 hours per week. 

You will be fully supported to develop your skills and competencies for the generic role and will include training around feeding and nutrition. 

You will have excellent scope for continuous development and training, working alongside specialist Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists completing stroke assessments and facilitating stroke rehabilitation.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about rehabilitation. You will need to be self-motivated, compassionate, and able to work with a large and varied team, with the desire to continually learn new skills and adapt to a changing environment.

Recent and relevant experience in a therapy healthcare setting is therefore essential.  Proficient computer skills and the ability to meet the travel requirements of the post are also essential.

Main duties of the job

The post will involve a wide range of duties including:

  • Assisting therapy programmes.
  • Facilitating daily rehabilitation.
  • Delivering individual therapy sessions  guided  by a multi-disciplinary therapy team.
  • Gathering data to support local and national stroke service audit (including updating the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme electronic database).
  • Supporting the ongoing development of stroke services in the region.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience of working within a Therapy environment
  • Able to demonstrate promotion of independence and its effect on health and well being
  • Understanding of the role of the Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist/Speech and Language Therapist/Dietitian
  • In depth understanding of the concept of rehabilitation/recovery within the clinical area (stroke).
  • Basic knowledge of main conditions relevant to area of speciality and the effects of illness on function.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working with people who have experienced stroke

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Quality Credit Framework qualification at level 3 e.g. NVQ or OCN related to Health & Social Care or equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Documented evidence of participation in training activities
  • Proven experience of working in relevant clinical speciality at diploma equivalent level of knowledge
  • Good general education especially in literacy and numeracy to at least GCSE grade C in English language or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of professional body and/or special interest group
  • Level 4 qualification in relevant clinical field
