Job overview
The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner following professional codes of conduct and ethics carrying a varied specialist caseload in a specialist area of practice which will include patients with complex needs.
Clinical activities can take place in a wide range of settings including 3 rehabilitation units ,hospital and community settings, and patients own homes.
The post holder will provide supervision to Occupational Therapy staff and students and in addition may provide supervision or guidance and support to support workers from another discipline. The post holder will support the learning and development of others including colleagues and peers.
The post holder will contribute to and lead some areas of service development duties within their department which can include attending meetings and leading in audit, evidence based practice research and service evaluation.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for confident and competent Band 6 occupational therapists to work as part of the adult mental health Occupational Therapy rehabilitation service within BCUHB, delivering client centred and specialist, occupationally focused assessments and interventions to adults with mental illness as part of the multidisciplinary team.
The Occupational Therapist will work to support the patient recovery journey supporting self-management and functional independence. The successful candidate will become part of a proactive, BCUHB wide, mental health rehabilitation Occupational Therapy team who work together to develop clinical skills and effectiveness across the service . We seek to expand the mental health Occupational Therapy provision within the service by evaluating service provision, developing business cases and running pilot projects. The Occupational Therapy service is committed to lifelong learning and evidenced based practice. All staff receive support and encouragement to utilise continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain a CPD portfolio. The post holder will be supported by an experienced team lead .
The post holder will as part of the team covering all 3 rehabilitation units which are based in Bodelwyddan, Ruthin and Llanfairfechan .
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Attended short courses or equivalent CPD relevant to speciality area at Post graduate level or equivalent.
- Experience of contributing to student placements
Desirable criteria
- Membership of specialist interest group.
- Short courses at post graduate diploma level.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post graduate experience with demonstrable NHS experience in related clinical field which equips the post holder to be competent to carry a specialist caseload in specialist area.
- Experience of contributing to service development and implementing service changes.
- Experienced supervisor. Understanding of supervision and delegation principles.
Desirable criteria
- Broad band 5 rotational experience
- Experience in same specialist clinical area.
