Clinical nurse specialist in Ventilation band 6.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within MFT for a permanent band 6 specialist nurse within the North West Ventilation Service at , MFT. Based at Wythenshawe hospital the successful candidates will provide care to a cohort of patients with hypercapnic respiratory failure at one of the leading national centre.
Working as part of an established multi-disciplinary team the successful post holders will assist in the delivery of care to this complex patient cohort providing assessment, treatment, education, and support to patients and and other healthcare professionals.
The North West Ventilation Service is a tertiary referral centre for long-term non-invasive/invasive ventilation and cough augmentation therapy, with approximately 1700 patients under our service. A well established multi-disciplinary team is responsible for managing these patients across the inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The successful candidate will work alongside the Specialist team of Nurses, Physiotherapists, Medical Consultants and Occupational Therapists.
The post holders will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of working as a nurse at a band 5 level and will be experienced in the field of respiratory medicine.

Main duties of the job
This role requires the post holder to work within the Unit's specialist MDT, outreach and outpatients on a rotation basis. Specialist skills are required to work within the Service, training can be provided as required. Weekend working is required on a rotational basis. Providing training to patients and carers is a requirement.
Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients to identify and meet their clinical needs, reassessing as appropriate.
Assess, plan, prioritise, implement, and evaluate nursing/therapeutic interventions to meet patients needs.
Encourage and educate patients, relatives, and carers to empower them to take an active role in care given.
Be responsible for assessing and identifying emergencies within their speciality field.
Be able to interpret clinical information and take appropriate action including the confidence to escalate to senior members of the service.
To undertake and promote clinical practice relevant to the needs of patients and families from multi-cultural backgrounds.
Advise and offer support to patients to autonomously manage their symptoms.
Communicate confidently with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Ensure all medication is administered in accordance with the Trust Medicines Management Policy.
Demonstrate the mandatory competencies of the Trust, attending all mandatory updates.
Full clean driving licence and car are essential for this role as the role includes regional outreach duties.

- Registered Nurse with UK NMC
- Teaching or mentoring qualification
