Job overview
Due to additional funding a new post has been opened providing an exciting dietetic opportunity for anyone passionate about being involved in developing an inpatient mental health service. You would be working as part of a specialist Mental Health Multi-Disciplinary team within a specialist Mental Health Hospital.
This challenging yet rewarding role involves working closely with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals to develop personalised nutrition plans for individuals admitted in Mental Health Inpatient units. Making a difference to people’s lives in the context of their mental health and physical health in terms of nutrition support, weight management, gastroenterology, diabetes!
Here at Lancashire and South Cumbria we are a small, very friendly hard working team with varied specialisms throughout; of all bands including Dietetic Assistant practitioners. You will be part of this dietetic team and an integral member of the Multi-Disciplinary Mental Health team.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and confident Dietitian to become part of the Mental Health Multi-Disciplinary Team delivering specialist healthcare around Pennine region for patients admitted to mental health inpatient units. The permanent post will be based at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital inpatient unit but flexibility to work and travel around the area is required.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to work flexibly across the adult mental health inpatient units as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
The successful candidate will gain invaluable experience working with complex mental health conditions, within a specialist Mental Health inpatient unit, focusing upon nutrition support, weight management and gastroenterology. You will be expected to have a strong commitment to ongoing professional and personal development.
Your role will involve helping to develop a robust dietetic service for the Central and West Lancashire region, assessment and implementation of care plans for patients who are inpatients and this may include covering for mental health inpatient units and hospitals’ where required. You will assist in the training of health care professionals and carers and maintenance of IT systems that support patient care.
You will work as an autonomous advanced practitioner, and provide a high standard of assessment, diagnosis, treatment and highly specialist expert advice to patients and carers. You will develop and promote a holistic, supportive and patient centred service. You will however have easy access to an allied health professional associate director, and consultant dietitian for support and clinical supervision.

Essential criteria
- Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent leading to Health Professions Council (HCPC) Registration as a Dietitian Teaching qualification or equivalent/demonstration of teaching/supervision experience
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
- Compliance with regulatory bodies and codes of professional conduct
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of current key NHS developments and policies and implications for service delivery
- Evidence of extensive professional clinical Knowledge, skill and experience
