Job overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for Senior Review Radiographer to join our team in a forward thinking radiotherapy department at the Velindre Cancer Service (Satellite Radiotherapy Unit at Neville Hall Hospital)_ 

 

Main duties of the job

To organise and lead on radiographer led review clinics, including assessing and managing treatment side effects, and advising patients and carers on how to manage these side effects. To include prescribing medications where appropriate utilising the current prescribing guidelines.

 

To lead on information and support for radiotherapy patients and carers, providing a holistic approach to the emotional, practical, social and information needs, utilising a variety of communication media.

 

To be part of the multidisciplinary team involved in the total care of patients undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment and highly specialist treatments e.g. SRS and SBRT

 

Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and travel to other hospitals as appropriate.

 

To assist in organising and planning the workload in review clinic and information and support service.

 

To take responsibility for training and supervising more junior review radiographers, rotational radiographers, support staff and students.

 

To work with more senior staff to provide a safe, accurate, efficient and caring treatment service.

 

To act as a resource within the Trust providing expert knowledge to support the multidisciplinary team.

 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) T or Diploma of College of Radiographers DCR(T) Or Post Graduate Diploma in Radiotherapy
  • Radiotherapy patients On-treatment review qualification or working towards
  • Supplementary/Independent prescriber or willing to work towards the qualification
  • Advanced communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Masters degree
  • Leadership qualification
  • Counselling skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with wide range of radiotherapy techniques e.g IMRT, SABR
  • Experience of reviewing radiotherapy patients
  • Ability to assess radiotherapy patients in a holistic way
  • Experience of working with Patient Specific directions or equivalent
  • Experience of using tool to assess holistic needs e.g distress thermometer
  • A thorough and detailed knowledge of principles and concepts underpinning a wide range or radiotherapy techniques
  • Sound practical ability
  • Knowledge and understanding of current oncology issues
  • Knowledge of radiotherapy side effects
  • Knowledge of drugs to treat radiotherapy side effects
  • Knowledge of Research and Development and audit
  • Knowledge of COSHH and Health and Safety Regulations
