Job overview

The South Yorkshire (SY) Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) within the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is looking to recruit enthusiastic newly qualified registered midwives to provide high quality, holistic perinatal midwifery care, sensitive to the needs of the woman and her family at one of the four hospital trusts within the SY region. (Barnsley NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).

As part of a centralised recruitment process, you will only need to submit one application. As part of your application, you will need to state your ‘Choice of Trust’   in South Yorkshire that you would like to apply to.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team in both the hospital and community settings, providing continuity of carer according to the local models of care. This includes partnership working with general practitioners, obstetricians, midwives, health visitors and all other agencies involved. To ensure that safe quality care is received by women and their families throughout the maternity pathway, flexible shift patterns/ on calls covering 24 hours, 7 days, including bank holidays are required.

Working for our organisation

You will complete the National Preceptorship Framework programme which will be a minimum of 12 months.

The package will be undertaken with local support and as part of your professional development and transition to Band 6, or where automatic transition is not Trust policy, it will equip you with the skills and experience required to confidently apply for Band 6 roles.

During the preceptorship period you will have the opportunity to provide care across the perinatal pathway in a variety of settings. It will help you to identify your strengths and highlight the areas requiring further development for the benefit of the women you care for. This in turn will enable you to become a confident and competent midwife, practising in accordance with the NMC Code (2018) and give you the opportunity to prepare for your first NMC Revalidation in 3 years’ time.

Within each Trust the Preceptorship Lead Midwife will provide you with ongoing support with any additional training needs throughout the programme. The LMNS anticipates that it will take a minimum of 12 months (whole time equivalent) for the post holder to progress to a Band 6 midwife position.

We are Equal Opportunities employers and welcome applications from all sections of society regardless of disability, age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please note as the South Yorkshire LMNS is recruiting collectively, your application will be processed by Sheffield as host trust who will then forward to the one trust you have chosen.  You should therefore be aware that your details will be shared with appropriate people from these organisations for the purpose of this recruitment.
