Job overview

The position of CAD Officer will be accountable to the Deputy Director Strategy, Planning and Capital specifically responsible for the effective and efficient management of updating all Estates “As built” CAD files for all buildings which form part of the Trust Estate, this will include mechanical and electrical service drawings, architectural and space drawings, health and safety plans, fire strategy and compartment plans as well as legislative plans.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist the Planning, Capital, Property and Operational teams when required to produce accurate technical drawings in a timely manner adhering to the Trust’s CAD procedures.
  • Create and revise other CAD documents such as fire plans, space utilisation plans, plans related to asbestos register and legionella etc.
  • Provide drawings for project options appraisals and business cases.
  • Asset management through regular updates of drawings working with capital and operational teams.
  • It would be desirable if the post holder has knowledge of BIM technologies and methodologies suitable to support expansion into the wider organisation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post is required to manage and maintain a true and accurate database of updated CAD drawings for the Trust, working independently with the minimum of supervision.

It is essential that he post holder has excellent practical skills and working knowledge of AutoCAD drawing software.

It is essential that the post holder has significant experience working in a similar role and environment within an Architectural/ construction team.

The post holder shall be able to:

  • Able to analyse complex drawings and be able to identify any anomalies and correct
  • Analyse and highlight compliance requirements and use judgement to prioritise workload
  • Able to work with both 2D and 3D drawings
  • Assist with drawings for O&M manuals
  • Plan own work and prioritise tasks with conflicting demands
  • Able to plan tasks and activities which may require adjustment due to variable workload and or interruptions
  • Follow departmental guidelines and may be required to comment.
  • Implements AutoCAD/Revit policies, proposes changes to working practices and procedures to comply with any departmental policies and procedures as required.
  • Responsible for the management of the Trust master plans on AutoCAD/Revit systems
  • Ensure that the Trust has an updated and accessible drawings data set relating to all estates and assets.
  • Assist in maintenance of user AutoCAD licence accounts and system rights database
  • Investigate and research developments in CAD technologies as to how they may benefit the Trust and aid with maintaining statutory compliance, enhancing asset management and linking with other Trust digital strategies
  • Undertake surveys on existing estate and new builds
  • Occasionally required to test AutoCAD system and liaise with IT with licence upgrades
  • Work on own initiative

 To manage, maintain and operate a computer-aided design system covering the whole of the Trust’s properties and associated services.


Main duties include surveying and producing feasibility, construction and asinstalled drawings for new works as required by Project Manager / Senior Building Officers. Ensuring that the estates master architects, mechanical and electrical services drawings are maintained and updated when both minor and major projects have been carried out. The preparation of site plans as required by the trust solicitors for HML Registry is also required.


Each post holder shares generic duties, but each individual has specific tasks and responsibilities for certain aspects of information systems, for example taking a lead role in Estates and Trust ERIC returns, space utilisation and services, and WIMS/Estates IT and associated software.


o Update and create internal intranet pages for access to Development plans and “you are here” site maps.


o Maintain and update the Estates Space Utilisation software package to
ensure accurate information is available regarding room occupancy and
other estates related issues.


o Maintain and update the Estates electronic filing system.


o Assist in the collection, collation and submission of data for Estates and
Facilities Information Returns (ERIC) & Crystal reports.


o Maintaining all Health and Safety files and Operation and maintenance
manuals.
