Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated part time ward clerk to join our team within the busy Paediatric Oncology Day Unit. 

The unit provides a service Monday – Friday for Children and Teenagers delivering a wide range of services and care needs, including day chemotherapy. 

We are looking for a reliable and highly organised individual who has excellent communication skills. You must also be able to demonstrate an adaptable, enthusiastic approach to your work, and the ability to manage your workload with various competing demands for your attention within a busy clinical area. You must be able to be courteous, respectful and helpful at all times.

Basic IT knowledge is essential and previous experience within a ward clerk environment is desirable.

The role involves providing a front line clerical service to clinical staff within the ward, ensuring an appropriate standard of support is delivered in a timely manner. You will provide a meet and greet service to visitors, patients and staff.  A key responsibility for the post holder is to ensure the timely and accurate inputting of data is captured for day case activity, admissions, transfers and discharges of patients. A key aspect to the role will involve ensuring case notes are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines and compliance with legislation.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will provide and maintain an efficient and effective administration service to the ward team and contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multidisciplinary team.

The post is 37.5hrs per week. The successful applicant will work opposite the current ward clerk to provide a 08:00-18:00 service M-F, not including bank holidays.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide and maintain efficient and effective administrative support to the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensures notes, investigations and results are available for new admissions and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • To ensure that case notes are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines and compliance with legislation (Caldicott Guidelines etc).  Ensuring PAS system is up to date and accurate.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • NVQ 2 level qualification / experience and/or minimum of 4 GCSEs, Level 4 – 9 (A – C), including English Language, or equivalent level qualification or relevant experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Competent with Microsoft Office software including Outlook; ICT Level 1 Qualification or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working within the NHS
  • Knowledge of the eRecord, Mermaid, Casis, ERA and or Tracking systems

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to communicate with members of the public and healthcare providers
