Following substantial investment in the pharmacy technician team we have 3 exciting new posts. 

Are you a motivated and forward-thinking registered Pharmacy Technician looking for a unique opportunity? Then join the friendly pharmacy department, Wrexham Maelor Hospital, in the role of Lead Pharmacy Technician – Procurement.

You will play a key role in maintaining a safe supply of medicines, developing the pharmacy service, and pharmacy workforce in line with our strategic vision to ensure we are able to provide the best care possible to the patients of North East Wales. You will be part of the senior pharmacy management team and will be responsible for reviewing current processes and implementing change where needed, to ensure the smooth running of the pharmacy department.

In this innovative position, you will collaborate with diverse teams on cutting-edge projects involving systems like the implementation of electronic prescribing and optimisation of pharmacy procurement service.

The successful candidate will be driven to introduce new ways of working to optimise pharmacy procurement, improve medication safety, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulators in a licensed wholesaling site. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage compliance with the Wholesale Dealer licence and ensure compliance with the Home Office Controlled Drugs licence 

  • Ensure pharmacy computer system is maximised to maintain and manage stock levels to meet demand 

  • Sourcing of alternative medicinal products of the required quality during medicines shortages. 

  • Procurement of medicines from approved suppliers following due diligence checks and meeting health board standing financial instructions 

  • Attend external meetings including the robot user group, All Wales Wellsky user group 

  • Ensure the medicines contracts are up to date etc working in conjunction with the Procurement Lead Pharmacist 

  • Manage health and safety risk assessments and health and safety queries relating to procurement of medicines 

  • Complete and maintain risks on the health board risk register associated with procurement of medicines 

  • Line management of the procurement team 

  • Deputise for Chief Pharmacy Technician and Lead Pharmacy Technician – Hospital Operations 

  • Maintain an overview of annual leave for all pharmacy procurement staff 

  • Ensure all products procured that are over-labelled or prepacked meet the required governance arrangements 

  • Manage KPI's for procurement services 

  • Provide assurance that the pharmacy procurement services meet the required governance frameworks

  • NVQ/QCF level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician
  • ILM Management qualification level 4 or equivalent
  • Registered pharmacy technician
Desirable criteria
  • QCF Work Based Assessor

Experience

  • A substantial level of post qualification experience in pharmacy services.
  • Experience of managing pharmacy team(s)
