Audiology Receptionist

This is an exciting opportunity to join the busy and friendly Audiology Department at Bedford Hospital. We're looking for a new Receptionist to fill a vacancy. We're very happy to consider part-time applicants as the role is well suited to a job share arrangement, providing you and us with flexibility. You need to thrive in a busy environment, taking pride in the detail of a job well done. You need to be an excellent communicator, both in person and on the phone as you are the front face of our department, the first point of welcome.
Main duties of the job
To receive and book patients for appointments, and communicate with clinical team.
To make any new and follow up appointments as necessary.
Overall oversight of each day’s schedule to include creative solutions to maximise capacity and maintain patient throughput.
To ensure all clinics are properly ‘cashed up’ on the Patient Management System.
To deal with any cancellations or DNAs according to the clinician’s instructions.
To ensure all case notes are available for the clinics and contain sufficient identification labels.
To answer all telephone calls in a courteous, pleasant and timely manner and ensure that messages are passed on appropriately.
To monitor the department email and respond to queries in a timely manner.
To take bookings for outreach maintenance clinics.
To provide cover for other reception staff during times of annual leave and sickness, working all day when necessary, sometimes at very short notice.
Responsibility for the waiting area, to include an over view of patient flow, patient safety and maintaining the standard of the patient environment.
To manage transport patient pathways including liaison with our transport provider.
To coordinate any maintenance requests.
To issue replacement batteries to Audiology’s hearing aid users.
To undertake basic maintenance to hearing aids.

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
