Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring Therapy Assistant Practitioner to join our friendly trauma and orthopaedic therapy team where we provide multi-disciplinary in-patient assessment and treatment for adult and child inpatients with a variety of acute conditions on the wards at Hillingdon Hospital.

Main duties of the job

This role will involve supporting Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, in the acute recovery of patients, assisting them to reach their full potential and helping them to return home from hospital.

 

Working autonomously, and as part of a team, under the supervision of qualified therapy staff, you will undertake delegated clinical treatment programmes and tasks.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

These may include implementation and progression of exercise programmes, walking practice and manual handling.

You will also support patients in carrying out functional activities to maximise their independence. These can involve practice of personal and domestic activities of daily living and function.

There will also be a requirement to do some administrative tasks. You may be involved in the collection of data and the completion of pathway documents, treatment regimes, care booklets, healthcare records and outcome measures. You will be an integral part of a supportive, friendly interdisciplinary acute therapy team.

 

We are looking for candidates who have the following:

  • experience of working as part of a health or other multidisciplinary team, ideally in an acute therapy setting within the NHS.
  • experience of teaching practical skills to patients
  • experience of working with people who have communication and understanding challenges.
  • good communication and interpersonal skills
  • an interest in supporting people to maximise their functional abilities.
  • good time management and organisation skills with sound IT skills
  • a willingness to undertake training and competencies and to work autonomously with patients with a variety of acute therapy needs.

 

Appropriate training will be provided to gain the required skills and competencies.

 

The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (THHFT) is located in North West London with services at both Hillingdon and Mount Vernon

Hospitals. The Hospitals have approximately 500 beds and serve a catchment population of 350,000 people. The Trust is currently planning for a

new build Hospital on this site and have received funding to plan this, which is an exciting prospect. THHFT is ideally situated within the M25,

Essential criteria
  • English and Maths GCSE level 5 or Above
  • Experience working within a therapy team in a health environment and people with acute medical conditions
  • Knowledge and understanding of the therapy process
  • Experience working as part of a multi professional team
  • A proven interest in the clinical area relating to the post
  • A good understanding of a range of trauma and orthopaedic conditions and relevant terminology, and common problems
Desirable criteria
  • Experience planning and leading groups
  • Evidence of participation in service development programmes
  • Experience of training staff & students
  • Evidence of experience in specialist equipment provision
